If you are just starting out on your journey, this Mission 2 Mindset. Allow me to share a bit of my story with you so at least you will know where I come from.
From a 300lb Truckdriver to a Successful Realtor
I have been interested in being a full time working class actor since I was 8 years old. My mother told me at 8 years old that I needed to find something I could fall back on. ( my first rejection)
That was 42 years ago and I have to tell you the rejection is consistant today as it was back then.
I did what she said I learn how to drive the big rigs. I weight about 300 lbs when my son Ryan was born. I started to see signs of health issues. My wife suggested that I could stay at home and take care of my son and pursue my first love which was being an actor.
I lost the weight and started on that journey about 18 years ago.
To say it was easy is a lie. My first phone call landed an National NFL commercial however that is what they call beginners luck. I was in for a long long wait of auditions and rejection.
My son was about 5 years old when I realized I needed to do something other then pray. I became a realtor...
Enter Real Estate
Most people dont know this but looking for work as an actor and looking for work as a realtor go hand in hand. There isnt anything that you can physically sell. Except yourself. I was good at selling myself and I learned that thru Focused Persistance you can get what you want as long as you do something everyday for what it is you are focused on.
SO in 2005 I got my real estate License in Maryland ... I found that it was really easy to get the license. However with the market getting ready to crash. I was met with more rejection about not being able to sell anything let alone homes. A mentor of mine told me to call FSBO's and with that I listed 11 homes my first month and 9 homes the second month. I had put up with so much rejection in show business that I had the thickest skin towards FSBO's. I was really good at getting the business.
Then the market crash....
Focused listings gave me enough time to also focus on New York City.
Call my car Car-U or Carucation.
I was constantly listening to Jim Rohn, Zig Zilgar, Wayne Dyer and anything I could. This was prior to Audible ... The Library was a constant source of these type of books.
2007 I ended up booking a week on HBO's The Wire and a month Later I booked a small role on Breach a local movie. I finally understood Mailbox money as a year later when I got a check for almost 10 grand from the movie.
Meanwhile I was listing and selling a ton of homes too.
Selling homes is fun and easy for me. I loved cold calling and I was sharing what I was doing with everyone. Then all of a sudden everyone was doing what I was doing and thats when I realized that I was able to pass on what worked for me to others to help them. "coaching"
Continuing my path as an actor over the next 10 years. I have worked on Broadwalk Empire, Law and Order, House of Cards, Ray Donavan and For Life 2020. I have sold hundreds and hundreds of homes and I have helped agents and actors alike.
I am not telling you this because to brag. I am telling you this because it wasn't until I got a mentor and a coach and started putting things into place that I was able to rock Real Estate and the hardest business in on the planet.
